Use this checklist during your callback and when comparing quotes. You do not need to diagnose the wall or choose the plaster yourself.

List the exact work: which rooms, walls and ceilings need plastering, and which surfaces are staying as they are.
Take one photo of the whole room and close-ups of damaged areas. Have rough room dimensions ready for the callback.
Point out leaks, damp marks, cracks or loose plaster. Ask what needs investigating or fixing before plastering starts.
Agree the finish: patch repairs, a full skim or new plasterboard. Ask where new work will meet the existing finish.
Get a written quote showing preparation, labour, materials and VAT. Check whether ceilings, waste removal and cleanup are included.
Ask what could change the price, and agree that any extra work must be discussed and priced before it goes ahead.
