Render Finish Types
Render finish types range from smoother finishes to textured wet dash and dry dash. We can discuss the appearance you want and the options for your external walls before agreeing the finish.
Start with the wall, then the appearance
A render finish needs to suit the proposed background and system as well as the appearance of the property. Tell the contractor whether you are finishing new work, replacing an existing coating or repairing part of an elevation. Keep reference photographs separate from the specification: an attractive photograph can show a texture without telling you which products or preparation produced it.
How should you compare smooth and textured finishes?
Describe the appearance you want in ordinary terms and ask to see representative samples. Discuss the texture at a normal viewing distance rather than judging it only close up. Wet dash, dry dash and proprietary finishes should not be treated as interchangeable names. Ask us to identify the proposed finish and explain its application and aftercare requirements for your particular wall.
What does a manufacturer name tell you?
A manufacturer can offer several products with different finishes. K Rend's product information is a useful example: selecting a brand is not the same as agreeing a complete system. Record the product and finish reference in the quote. We will discuss suitability for your wall before a system is selected.
How should you choose a colour?
Use a physical sample where practical and look at it in daylight at the property. Compare it beside the roof, windows and adjoining materials. Phone screens and printed pictures can change the apparent colour, so keep the agreed sample reference. If only one section is being repaired, discuss how closely new work can match the weathered finish around it before deciding the scope.
What needs to be agreed at the edges?
Ask how the finish meets windows, doors, corners and the base of the wall. Record any trims or details that will remain visible. Include access and protection in the conversation, especially beside shared boundaries or existing paving. Before work starts, confirm the texture, colour and product reference together. At handover, keep the maintenance guidance for that specific system rather than relying on a general promise of no upkeep.

Frequently asked questions
Can I enquire before I know which products are needed?
Yes. Describe the work and what you know about the existing finish. The materials and preparation should be chosen after the job is assessed, not guessed when filling in the form.
What should I have ready for the callback?
Have your nearest Cork town, a list of the surfaces involved and photographs ready. Mention occupied rooms, difficult access and other trades already booked so the scope can be discussed clearly.
Does the callback request confirm a booking or price?
No. It is an enquiry. Availability, a visit if needed, the written scope and price must be agreed separately. There is no automatic call-out charge or promised start date on this website.
