Ask before committing to a decorating date
The end of plastering and the beginning of painting should be planned as separate stages. Tell the plasterer about any decorator already booked and ask what needs checking at handover. A whole room may include different backgrounds and deeper repairs as well as a finishing coat. Make sure the decorator knows the scope instead of assuming that every surface in the room is in the same condition.
Know which products are on the wall
Keep the names of the plaster products used and any relevant aftercare information. Ask the painter to confirm the proposed decorating system for those surfaces. Buying a finish because it suits a colour scheme does not establish that the preparation is right. Gyproc Ireland's product information helps identify the intended use of its internal finishing plaster, but a website cannot inspect your wall or approve a particular decorating date.
Do not rely on a calendar alone
A number of days copied from another project is not a check of the actual room. Discuss the conditions and whether the work contains repairs that need separate attention. If the planned programme is tight, agree a way to review readiness before the painter arrives. This guide deliberately gives no universal deadline: a useful instruction should relate to the materials and the job, not simply to the day the plasterer finished.
Agree who does the final preparation
Ask who handles any small finishing checks before decoration and whether that is included in the plastering or painting quote. Keep cleanup, protection and access arrangements clear. If you have already started other work in the room, explain that before new surfaces are coated. Let each trade know when the other will be present so materials or furnishings do not arrive before the space is ready for them.
Follow the chosen paint instructions
The initial coating and any preparation need to follow the decorating product's guidance for the actual background. Do not assume a single dilution ratio or primer applies to every new plaster surface. Ask the decorator to explain the system being proposed, particularly if there are several different finishes in one room. Keep the product references with the handover information so future touching-up can start from a record rather than guesswork.
What to ask during your callback
Describe the surfaces being plastered and the decorating work you are planning. Mention a move-in date or other scheduling pressure without treating it as a promise that painting can proceed by then. Leave your Cork area and have room photographs and rough dimensions available. Ask for the finishing sequence, aftercare advice and responsibility for confirming the next stage. The checklist below can stay with your quote as a record of the questions to resolve.
Keep these questions with your quote
Use this list during your callback. Print it or keep a copy with your quote.

Frequently asked questions
Can you give a firm answer from a photograph?
Photographs help explain the enquiry, but the wall or ceiling may need an on-site assessment before preparation, materials and the programme are agreed.
Should I buy materials before the callback?
Ask first. Keep the product choices with the proposed scope so preparation and finishing materials are considered together.
